In the aftermath of the 2011 disaster, older people particularly felt the impact of community fragmentation, as their friends and relatives were often dispersed during emergency rehousing programs. In this context, this program established a community station, akin to a welfare center, to serve as multi-generational, multi-purpose venue for the rebuilding of lives physically and emotionally damaged by the earthquake and tsunami, and as a platform for the long-term revitalization of the local community.
TMN was the JTI Foundation’s partner in developing the community station, which included provisions for the training and development of care-workers (including persons with disabilities) based at the Station. As a result, some 200 older local residents are now using either the day-care or home-visiting services provided by the Station every week.
