Help where roads cannot reach

Severe flooding and landslides in Nepal’s Rasuwa District have damaged roads, bridges, homes and critical infrastructure, leaving several communities without road access, electricity or telecommunications. Working with government and local authorities, Bighnaharta Nepal is mounting an immediate response in Mailung, Gatlang and Uttargaya, where some of the worst-affected communities can currently be reached only by helicopter.

Supported by the JTI Foundation, the response will provide around 200 households with emergency food, temporary shelter, water and sanitation support, essential communication and power services, while laying the foundations for longer-term recovery and rehabilitation.

The project will support flood-affected families through a combination of emergency relief, temporary shelter and community-based support services. A community kitchen will provide regular meals for displaced households, while temporary accommodation, toilets, bathing facilities and water, sanitation and hygiene services will help ensure safe and dignified living conditions.

Particular attention will be given to women, children, older people, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. Emergency power and communication support, including charging facilities and basic communications equipment, will help communities remain connected while access to many areas remains severely constrained.

Funding will also support helicopter operations, transport, coordination and relief-camp activities needed to reach isolated settlements. As immediate humanitarian needs are addressed, the project will transition towards early recovery, rehabilitation and livelihood restoration, helping affected families rebuild homes, restore productive assets and strengthen community resilience for the future.
