This project allowed ShelterBox to provide of 612 disaster relief tents to families affected by the floods in the states of Kelantan and Pehang. These includes 565 compact midi tents and 47 of ShelterBox’s new dome tents.
ShelterBox completed initial damage assessments in the districts of Kuala Krai, and Gua Musang in the state of Kelantan, before establishing a small refugee camp at Gua Musang for 100 homeless families. The teams then made further assessments in the states of Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu.
This program allowed 612 homeless families in the flood-affected states of Kelantan and Pahang to benefit from ShelterBox dome tents. These provided families with a secure base from which to rebuild permanent dwellings, opportunities for adults to return to income generating activities once sheltered, and improved the morale of rehoused families.
Each tent is capable of accommodating a maximum of five people, and as a result, the total number of beneficiaries is likely to have numbered over 3,000.
