Swiss NGO REDOG was established in 1971 as a volunteer Search & Rescue (SAR) organization. Since then, it has grown into a world-renown SAR outfit, widely recognized as a leader in rescue dog and dog-handler training and development. It is an active member of both the Swiss Red Cross and Swiss Rescue Chain.
The JTI Foundation has continuously supported REDOG’s training and capacity building programs since 2011.
JTIF support enables REDOG to pursue its core objective: training dogs and their handlers to save lives in the immediate aftermath of natural and man-made disasters including earthquakes, landslides and explosions.
Specifically, JTI Foundation support allows REDOG to maintain readiness and capacity to deploy rapidly to disaster sites. This partnership means hundreds of volunteers receive specialist training each year – enabling more effective deployments in the field.
Additionally, JTI Foundation support will allow REDOG to extend its international training activities, which is critical to building search and rescue capacities worldwide. REDOG has formally collaborated with JTI Foundation partner GEA since 2014, and also works extensively with SAR organizations based in Japan, including the Japan Disaster Rescue Dog Network.
In addition to the 820 REDOG volunteers who directly benefit from this partnership, Swiss organizations including the army and fire brigade indirectly benefit from increased disaster-dog search capacity.
