Since the widening of the Middle East conflict in October 2024, much of Lebanon’s infrastructure has been severely damaged, particularly disrupting the delivery of basic health services.
Many thousands of Lebanese citizens have fled to neighboring countries, or remain internally displaced persons (IDP) surviving in barely adequate emergency shelters in unfamiliar parts of their own country.
Foundation partner Mousawat has identified a number of pressing needs including for food, healthcare and hygiene assistance – and support with ‘winterization’ – preparing for the challenges of much colder weather conditions.
More specifically, Mousawat’s program targets acutely vulnerable IDPs with chronic illnesses or living with disabilities – a segment of the population whose more complex medical needs are often overlooked during times of crisis.
In addition to providing food staples, clothes and shelter for displaced families, Mousawat is sourcing and delivering a range of medical equipment such as wheelchairs and oxygen tanks for the less able, and medication for chronic conditions including hypertension and diabetes for IDPs dependent on these increasingly scarce medicines.
