REDOG’s fundamental aim is to develop and sustain disaster-dog search capacity to allow for fast and effective deployments of search-dog teams, both internationally and in Switzerland.
Every year, 80 to 100 REDOG volunteers participate in a training week with international experts in Geneva. As a result, their rescue-dogs have improved search skills, and the volunteers are better-trained and readied for rapid deployment.
REDOG also collaborates with other JTI Foundation Search & Rescue partners, including Peace Winds Japan and GEA – with REDOG and GEA signing a protocol for joint international deployments in 2014. The partnership between REDOG and GEA is expected to further strengthen with effective joint deployments during the lifetime of this program.
Around 700 REDOG volunteers will directly benefit from this program. In addition, Swiss partner organizations including the army and fire brigade will indirectly benefit from increased disaster-dog search capacity, as will local populations in ten Swiss cantons.
