The JTI Foundation has helped ShelterBox to strengthen the capacity of its volunteer cadre, enabled ShelterBox’s first fully-funded post-distribution monitoring and evaluation visit and provided for the inclusion of specific items in prepositioned ShelterBox relief “boxes” in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, a JTI Foundation supported initiative enabled ShelterBox to provide over 500 tents to families affected by the floods in Sudan in 2013.
The three-years partnership initiated in 2014 the continuation of the successful program implementation started in 2012. This will allow ShelterBox to build on its achievements and further develop its capacity to respond to disasters wherever in the world they may strike on a sustainable basis.
Three years of funding will contribute to securing disaster assessment training, personnel, specialized equipment, the provision of 125 tents each year – and an improved operational structure in London. This should in a large measure allow the charity to meet its development objectives.
As part of our ongoing partnership, in August 2015, the JTI Foundation’s support enabled the provision of 149 ShelterBox tents, which were included in a consignment of a further 1,000 tents, 2,000 solar lights and 2,000 water carriers that was dispatched to help Nigerian refugee families fleeing Boko Haram insurgents to the neighboring borders of Cameroon. This is part of a larger deployment by ShelterBox that also contributed to a further 240 ShelterBoxes being distributed, benefitting in total over 1,000 people.
